‘Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose’ – Kevin Arnold
I have often said that I consider myself very lucky to do a job that I love, whilst with any business it has it’s up’s and down’s, for me the “up” part is always creating beautiful images for so many families.
My lifestyle sessions are just that, life, a freeze frame, a moment, but they are also about trust and building a relationship with a family in order to create those treasured memories.
The very fact that I am being allowed into someones home, to explore their rooms, to get a small glimpse of their lives and hopefully capture the very essence of their family, heart and home is not something I take for granted, but rather, I am honored to have the opportunity to create something that will be treasured and enjoyed for years to come.
I have been lucky enough to work with some amazing families who have gone on to become friends ( yes, we meet for coffee and lunch) as well as repeat clients over the years, and there is something very special about going back to meet the latest addition to their family or to see how the children have grown.
From a repeat client – “ I can’t exactly pin-point when photographs became important to me – back in the eighties I was on holiday with my family in Greece, staying at my late grandmother’s house. There was a forest fire – the speed of the fire was as if someone had covered the ground with petrol and we had to leave the house quickly just grabbing what we could. The things we grabbed we a pretty pathetic collection of odd shoes, a few books and some – not all, of the passports. But what we all mourned, as we were waiting on the beach for the boat to rescue us, were the old photos of my grandparents…….pictures are memories, and memories are pictures. Objects can be replaced – but photos really can’t. My photo collection ( after my children – possibly the husband) is the first thing I would save if I was in a similar situation again – they are some of my greatest treasures – I can’t roll back time but I can look back on it.
