For any of you that know me or have worked with me, know I love babies. I adore these tiny humans and for the most part, have the baby whisperer’s touch.
I’m a lifestyle photographer first and foremost. I come to you, I work with what’s available.
My style is simple backgrounds. Created with throws for the baby element of a shoot, and usually, my client’s walls and a little photoshop trickery. Or for a more natural lifestyle, I use you, your favorite place or just your home as it is, as the backdrop.
Those posed basket/bowl/dish shots are lovely, and many a studio-based photographer offers them. I am not a studio photographer. Therefore I will not be lugging boxes, baskets, wreaths, flowers, or any other kind of prop or container with me. ( see the confession below !)
If you have looked at my work, you will see that I do lightly pose babies and wrap them. Occasionally you’ll see a hat or a headband if that’s what mum wants, and all of that comes out of one little magic bag!
Baby-led sessions are exactly that, led by baby.
All my sessions are baby-led. In my many years of experience, the majority of babies I’ve worked with don’t like to be undressed, let alone be naked. However, there are a few tricks, see how to prepare.
Babies are very quick to tell me what they like and don’t like. For example, the naked bum in air pose is super cute, but if your darling really doesn’t like being on their front, refuses to go into a deep sleep, or like being naked, then it’s going to be harder to achieve, if at all possible. And who wants a stressful photo session, not mum baby, or your photographer, and I will never force a pose a baby doesn’t like.
When he or she sleeps then I can usually work through a range of flow posed fairly quickly. If your little one dislikes being naked, then wrapping is the way to go. They love this and feel secure, usually, they go straight off to sleep.
When your baby is around 14 days the sleep shots are a little more tricky. At this stage, they are more awake, very curious, and asserting their independence. This is when the newborn lifestyle session is ideal, designed especially for babies 14 days to 8 weeks. Examples below.
How to prepare.
To make the most out of your session a little preparation is required. Relaxed and sleepy babies are the way forward and these tips will help.
- Turn the heat up, if you are lucky enough to have isolated heat controls I would ask you to wack the heating up to a balmy 24 degrees. Warm babies are sleep babies.
- Feed them just before I arrive and have them in a loose nappy, again milk drunk babies are happy babies.
- Have on hand spare nappies, baby wipes/cotton, muslins, accidents happen.
- If you have anything, in particular, you would like to include in the session please have these available, think an heirloom blanket, outfits you have chosen, etc.
- And lastly, don’t worry, relax and enjoy, your baby is in safe hands.

Introducing “THE JUST BABY SESSION”
Awesome newborn images for those on a budget, (babies are expensive), new mamas who are a little self-conscious, and those that want the tiny human to be the main focus.
How it works
I come to you for one hour, the focus will only be on the baby. Images taken will include all the little details, simple wraps and a few lifestyle images.
After the session, you will receive a gallery of newborn images, edited and ready to download.
These ” Just Baby” sessions are also ideal a gift for certificates for new mums and dads, it takes the pressure off them having to be presentable, but if they’d like to be in the images an upgrade is always an option.
Above and below are examples of the kind of images you can expect from a “Just Baby” session, from both a lightly posed and lifestyle perspective.
